When I first saw this little gem she was the smallest little girl I had ever seen. She was very different though. I described her as velvet looking. Since then many people who have seen her has described her the same way. Therefore I decided to name her the 'Black Velvet' ball.
I'm not sure if she will be genetic, but she has some distinguishing features that lead me to believe that she very well could be. She is very dark with a granite pattern. Her eyes are extremely dark, almost pitch black. Her belly is patternless and has a slight gray tinge to it.
In 2006 I hope to breed her to either a Yellow Belly or a Mojave male. Unless I find a male that is similar to her. If anything is going on I suspect it to be co-dominant based on other similar morphs that have proven to be so. Only time will tell.
She isn't what I would classify as a 'WOW' morph. I won't be planning a parade if she proves out. And if she doesn't prove to be genetic we will probably cross her into out albino line. Imagine how dark the orange would be if you removed all the dark pigment!
We are somewhat excited about this little girl and the future that she may hold. Stay tuned!
Distinguishing Markings:
- Dark black velvet appearance
- Dark black eyes
- Granite flecking on the sides
- clear gray belly
